The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course. Developed by the College Board, CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program. Setting up your CLEP exam is a two step process:

Beginning July 1, 2025 CLEP exam fee will increase to $97

• Step One: Register for and purchase your CLEP exam ($97 per exam) through College Board. Go to the CLEP site and follow the instructions on the College Board's website.
• Step Two: After registering for your CLEP exam through College Board, schedule your exam at and pay your test administration fee, $30.00 per exam.

Prior Learning Assessment opportunities allow students to accelerate their studies by earning college credit through examination. Some exams are completed in high school, CLEP and DSST can be taken during your studies at KSU which can allow you to complete some of your degree requirements. 

Some departments offer departmental challenge exams for advanced standing, which provides those students who demonstrate satisfactory evidence of acquired knowledge from prior learning to receive course credit. 

Other requests for credit by exam should be initiated with a CPL coordinator. Please complete the CPL Inquiry Form to initiate the process.

DSST is an effective method to provide KSU with evidence of prior learning.  Prior Learning Assessments will help you accelerate your path to degree completion while saving you the time it takes to sit through a course as well as the additional dollars spent on tuition.

While the exams are funded for active-duty military and their spouses, DSST tests are not just for those in the military. Adult learners, college students, homeschooled students, and military veterans are also eligible to earn college credits through DSST.

• Step Two: After checking in, you will pay for your DSST exam with a debit or credit card after you log in to your DSST account. If you don’t have an account, you will create one at the Testing Center.

eCore—short for electronic core-curriculum—allows University System of Georgia (USG) students the opportunity to complete their first two years of their collegiate careers in an online environment. eCore courses are taught entirely online, except for the occasional proctored exam. eCore classes require at least one proctored exam during the course of study. eCore courses are designed, developed, taught and supported by faculty and staff from the USG.

The Testing Center provides a proctored environment for KSU students to take course exams. No appointment should be made without first obtaining faculty approval. The center offers testing for students enrolled in online, hybrid, or on-campus courses. Students may schedule final exams, semester exams, make-up exams or convenience exams at the direction of their professor. 

When faculty approval is obtained, you will need to schedule an appointment to register for the exam.  

The following fees apply to faculty directed exams:

• Convenience/Make-Up Exam (all course types): $30.00 per exam

Students wishing to receive credit by examination for foreign language proficiency can use the Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS) offered by Brigham Young University.  You can earn 3, 6, 9, or 12 credit hours based on your proficiency level in any of the languages in the table below.  Credits awarded will correspond to the KSU language course listing or FL if there is no associated KSU course at levels 1001, 1002, 2001, and 2002.

Setting up your FLATS exam is a two step process:

• Step One:  Register for and purchase your FLATS exam ($50 per exam) through BYU's FLATS Department.  Visit BYU's website and follow the instructions on their page.

After registering for your exam through BYU, you will receive an email with exam instructions and a unique confirmation number and online exam password.

The Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators® (GACE®) is Georgia's state-approved educator certification assessment program.  These computer-delivered assessments have been developed by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and Educational Testing Services (ETS).

The purpose of the GACE assessments is to help the GaPSC ensure that candidates have the knowledge and skills needed to perform the job of an educator in Georgia's public schools.

The University System of Georgia (USG) requires all students in USG institutions to satisfy the United States and Georgia History and Constitution requirements prior to graduation. For KSU students pursuing a second baccalaureate degree, the history requirement can be satisfied by passing HIST 2112 or by passing the US and/or Georgia History Exam.  The Constitution requirement can be satisfied by passing POLS 1101 or by passing the US and/or GA Constitution Exam.

We strongly recommend that you consult with your academic advisor BEFORE scheduling your exam.  Passing scores and recommended study materials are as follows:

History

• US and Georgia Exam:  Passing score is 70 out of 100 questions - 70%
• Georgia Exam:  Passing score is 32 out 50 questions - 64%

Recommended study material:

• For the American part of the US and Georgia History Exam, any college-level US History textbook.
• For the Georgia part of the combined exam, and the Georgia only exam; Myers and Williams, Georgia: A Brief History (Mercer University Press) or please download the Georgia History Study Guide for additional study information.

Constitution

• US and Georgia Exam:  Passing score is 75 out of 100 questions - 75%
• Georgia Exam:  Passing score is 30 out of 50 questions - 60%

After consulting with your academic advisor, schedule your appointment and pay the test administration fee. 

You are allowed unlimited attempts to pass the USG Legislative Requirement exams. Each attempt will require an additional appointment.

For students from other colleges or organizations, the Testing Center will provide proctoring services at the request of your instructor or organization.  If you have a request form that need to be filled out by the Testing Center, please email the form to [email protected], or by hand carrying the document to a testing staff member.

Non-KSU students will register for proctored exams, reserve a seat in the testing lab, and pay the proctoring fee by scheduling an appointment.  There is a minimum $30.00 test administration fee for proctoring services.
