Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
The Kennesaw State University computer engineering degree provides you with the skills needed for a career as a computer engineer. The computer engineering field is a blend of hardware engineering with software development. As a computer engineer, you will gain skills in electrical and electronic engineering, software design, and hardware-software integration. The goal of a computer engineer is to promote the advancement of digital technology, computer networking, and embedded computer systems. At KSU, the computer engineering degree program places special focus on embedded systems design, Internet of Things (IoT), systems integration with sensors and actuators, and product development.
Computer Engineering uses principles from Computer Science and Electrical Engineering to create hardware (physical components) and firmware which are used in a wide range of areas, including consumer electronics, medical devices, communication systems, aircraft, and self-driving cars.
Computer Engineering students learn how to develop, prototype, and test microchips, circuits, processors, and other components used in computer systems (e.g. supercomputers, smartphones, laptops, servers, IoT gadgets). They also develop firmware, an essential type of software that allows operating systems and applications to take full advantage of the hardware.
This program offers course work in:
- Embedded Systems
- Software and hardware development
- Programming and problem solving
- Machine learning
- Internet of Things
- Control Systems, Sensors, and Actuators
