I hope that Nutshell stay true to the cause, I have been with so many start up insurance companies in my life time, and you find once they become known they sell the company on, and everything goes out of the window , at this point I'm pleased with my quote.

Easy enough do online, but no support for those with special needs. Not everyone is ok using a computer. The live chat is also not great

Feels really duplicitous. Price goes up in the quote period, even for a change of renewal date that is less than a week difference. Apparently, although the risk hasn't changed this is industry standard. However, Nutshell were proactive and I have had an excellent phone conversation with their customer services so feeling happier with the outcome and have adjusted rating.

Bought a new car & so no longer needed this car insurance... This company charged me £60 to cancel! Disgraceful! I will never buy insurance with them again!

UPDATE: The cancellation fee works out at over 20% of the base cost of the policy & I have been told by Nutshell that they feel this is fair?

I'll leave you to decide whether you think this is fair, but I certainly do not.

My experience with Nutshell has been genuinely shocking from start to finish. They cancelled my policy before it even began, claiming I “didn’t declare any of my claims.” This was completely untrue.

I declared all of my claims on the comparison website — I checked the exact quote I originally used, and the claims were definitely included. I even ran the same search again afterwards, and the claims still showed. Nutshell even appeared again on my new list of quotes offering me cover, which makes absolutely no sense if they believed I hadn’t declared anything.

Customer service insisted that my “welcome pack” showed no claims declared, but I couldn’t even access the welcome pack at all, which I repeatedly explained. Instead of investigating, the chat agents just repeated the same script and refused to escalate anything properly.

The worst part is the letter they sent me literally stated “claims declared by you that match CUE,” and then listed the claims — including a duplicated one on their system. So their own documentation confirmed I did declare my claims, yet they still blamed me and cancelled the policy based on incorrect data.

To make the experience even worse, they have still not refunded me, despite cancelling the policy before it started and providing no cover at all. I’ve had to chase repeatedly just to get my own money back.

I’ve now gone elsewhere for insurance because I cannot trust a company that mishandles basic information, cancels policies incorrectly, and then delays refunds.
Overall, a terrible experience — I strongly advise avoiding this insurer.

Nutshell offered a much more favourable quotation on a newer vehicle, than my previous insurance company. Whom I had been insured with for some seventeen years.
So I hope to be with Nutshell now for at least seventeen more years of motoring.

Really pleased with the service from nutshell. I drive a high performance car and previous insurance quotes have been very expensive. Nutshell was much cheaper, so was happy to take out a policy with them. The process of taking out the policy was extremely easy.

Just insured my car with them now and created an account as unfortunately everything’s done online.
Clicked on the ‘Chat Now’ button as I have a query and the page just refreshes. Each time I click it the same thing happens. I then tried clicking on ‘Contact Us’ but exactly the same so it would appear that although they claim there’s a chat facility it doesn’t actually exist!
God help me if I ever need to make a claim!

We have had car insurance through Nutshell for the last 12 months. No claims during that period. It is now renewal time and they have said because of our current details they cannot provide a quote. Nothing has changed over the last 12 months, but they won't explain what it is in our current details that leads them to this conclusion. Very frustrating and in my book pretty poor customer service

Purchased insurance in full on 18/11/25 and I'm still waiting for it to show on my account, No direct customer contact phone number, paper certificate of insurance would be better for when renewing

I received a compare the market email reminding me about my insurance. I though I was going to stay with current provider and let it auto renew as the price seemed okay, however when I double checked current provider the price had increased. Nutshell were quoting £60 cheaper and when I looked into details, it was the same underwriter, same cover plus a couple of extras so it was a no brainer. Of course the merit of an insurance provider is how they deal with a claim, so hopefully I won’t find out but if I do, I hope it goes well!

Can’t complain. Straight forward process, was easy to set up account and turn off auto renewal once you were in your account. Cheapest price that offered non insured driver compared to my previous insurance company renewal quote.

Fast and easy and a great price. My former insurers couldn't supply a quite due to the vehicle type. Found Nutshell on line. Thought let's give it a go. Not the cheapest. But very competitive and very easy to do. So a big thumbs up from me
