Tips

1. Most databases have a truncation character. For many, gene* will get gene and genes and genetic and genetics, but also generally.

2. In any database (including Google) try using quotes around words you want as a phrase.

3. Use specific and technical terms in article databases.  See how close you can get to 25 good results.

Journal Article Databases

Journal articles contain specific and up-to-date research results or reviews.  Articles are found in databases.  Some that are useful in this area might be:

Get it at UC

If you see an article in a database and want to get it, find and click on theGet it at UC logo            icon (or possibly in Google Scholar).

Get it at UC let you know what your access options are (think of "find it"). It might

  • get you to the full-text of the article (with a link, or to a choice of links),
  • take you to UC Library Search search for a print copy, or
  • allow you to make an Interlibrary Loan request by clicking on Request through Interlibrary Loan.  You have to be signed into your Library Account in UC Library Search to make requests.
