About Rooms & Lockers

Group Spaces: Study Rooms

  • Rooms can seat from 4-8, depending on the room.
  • Reserve up to two hours per day by any current UNM student, faculty, or staff member, up to one week in advance.
  • Reservations MUST be in one-hour increments.
  • Rooms are not locked – no keys required.

Group Spaces: Study Clusters

  • Clusters can seat up to 6.
  • Reserve up to two hours per day by any current UNM student, faculty, or staff member, up to one week in advance.
  • Spaces operate as drop-in while not reserved.

Group Spaces: Collaborative Spaces

  • Provide access to specialized software and equipment.
  • Rooms can seat from 12 to 16, depending on the room.
  • Reservation periods vary. Check the schedule.

Two Week Cubbies

  • Locked rooms that current students enrolled in degree-granting programs can reserve for a maximum of two weeks at a time once a month.
  • Contain a desk, chair, and power outlet.
  • Please note that chairs cannot be switched with furniture outside the cubbies

Semester Lockers

  • Use for the whole semester but only during the academic term. 
  • First-come, first-served for current students.  

Library Drop-In Spaces

  • UNM Libraries offer both group and individual drop-in spaces.
  • Drop-in spaces are first-come, first-serve. They do not require a booking nor specific time limitations outside of the library's hours of operation.
  • Centennial Science & Engineering Library
    • Individual Drop-In Study Rooms on the Lower Level 1 and Lower Level 2.
    • DEN1 Large Group Drop-in on Lower Level 1.

Semester Lair Open Enrollment Applications for the Spring 2026 semester are closed. Emails for Lair assignments and waitlists will start January 27, 2026. Please contact one of our Rooms and Spaces staff members below if you have any questions.

 Semester Lairs are reserved:

  • For the length of the semester.
  • By individual graduate students enrolled in a degree-granting program.
    • Semester Lairs are assigned first to masters & doctoral students enrolled in 599 or 699 thesis / dissertation hours. Remaining Lairs are then assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • During Open Enrollment. Upcoming open enrollment periods are announced at the end of the semester.   

Semester Lair application process:

  • Applicants will be notified about assignments by the end of the open enrollment period.
  • Priority is given to applicants enrolled in dissertation/thesis hours or a program equivalent such as a final project/portfolio. Priority applicants will be assigned a Semester Lair (if one is available).
  • All other applications by graduate students will be evaluated in the order they were received and assigned a Lair upon availability. 
  • A waiting list will be maintained through the semester. Waiting lists are only good for the current semester; you must re-apply at the start of each semester during Open Enrollment.
