We are pleased to share the latest edition of posit::glimpse(), our roundup of significant news and product releases for the Posit open-source community 🎉 Key highlights from this edition include: • ggplot2 v4.0.0: A major milestone for R’s premier visualization package. This release modernizes the internal engine and introduces "role-oriented styling," allowing you to define foreground and background colors more intuitively • dplyr v1.2.0: Significant performance optimizations make functions like if_else() and case_when() up to 30x faster. New verbs like filter_out() and logical helpers when_any() / when_all() streamline complex data filtering tasks. • ellmer v0.4.0: Enhanced support for working with LLMs (Claude and OpenAI), featuring new capabilities for file uploads, web search tools, and automated data frame schema descriptions. • Positron 2026.02.0: Our next-generation IDE now includes a native editor for Jupyter Notebooks. Additionally, registration is now officially open for posit::conf(2026), taking place in Houston from September 14–16! Announcing plumber2 0.2.0: Enhanced Observability and Authentication for R APIs We are pleased to announce the release of plumber2 0.2.0, a significant update to the modern web server framework for R users. Following the initial release of plumber2 as the successor to the original plumber package, this version introduces critical features designed to bring observability and robust authentication to R-based APIs. This update addresses the growing need for better monitoring and access control in deployed environments so that R APIs can be managed with the same rigor as any other microservice in a modern stack. • OpenTelemetry (OTEL) Support: Native integration with OpenTelemetry to capture traces, logs, and metrics. Your R APIs can now integrate with observability backends like Jaeger, Prometheus, and Grafana Cloud. • Integrated Authentication: The new version adds dedicated support for authentication and authorization. It includes "guards" for common schemes such as Basic, Bearer (token-based), and OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect. • Performance Optimization: Beyond new features, this update includes tangible performance improvements to the underlying request handling. • We’ve loved learning from marketing analytics leaders in our weekly Data Science Hangouts. One thing is becoming clear: Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) is top of mind for many! The consensus? Building a great model is only half the battle. The real value is realized when you give non-technical stakeholders a clear, data-backed view of ROI. We’ve heard some incredible stories lately that sparked this month’s focus: - 📚 Sophia Tee (Penguin Random House) shared how their models serve as the foundation for recommending specific tactics to maximize book launches. - 💻 John Stanton-Geddes (HP) discussed using Posit Connect to ensure stakeholders have secure access to insights across diverse channels, from Formula 1 to paid search. - 🧱 Ryan Timpe (LEGO) emphasized shifting from describing the past to helping the business make decisions. His team doesn’t just hand over coefficients; they operationalize insights into Shiny apps so stakeholders can run their own budget scenarios. With all this energy around MMM, this month’s Workflow Demo is focused on Strategic Budget Optimization. Join Isabella Velásquez and Daniel Chen as they walk through an end-to-end blueprint for bridging the gap between data science and stakeholder decisions. When: Wednesday, February 25th at 11am ET 🔗 Register Here: https://lnkd.in/dSz8Tk_4 What they’ll highlight in the demo: - The Architecture: The backend "plumbing" needed to move from raw data to insights. - The Interface: A Shiny dashboard for real-time "what-if" budget scenarios. - The Delivery: Automated Quarto reports to keep leadership aligned. - The Deployment: Using Posit Connect to turn your code into a permanent, accessible business asset.
