Our Goal

The Office of Sustainability works to implement policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through operations, engagement and academic programs. Our programs showcase the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural relationships to meet our current needs and those of future generations. Our vision is to improve the quality of life through enhancing the culture of sustainability on campus and the community.

Sustainability for Climate Action and Environmental Justice

UCR’s Strategic Plan (“UCR 2030”) is the campus roadmap to 2030. It organizes university-wide work into five initiatives—including Sustainability for Climate Action and Environmental Justice—and advances them through three goals: build financial stability and sustainability; invest in the success of our people; and expand UCR’s visibility and impact.

ScottyEats tackles food waste and food insecurity at UCR
ScottyEats, a program UC Riverside’s Basic Needs Department launched in January 2025, aims to reduce food waste and address student food insecurity on campus. Since its launch, ScottyEats has recovered approximately 1,827 pounds of food from Glasgow Dining Hall and served more than 1,445 meals to students. ScottyEats wrapped up its first run with its last event June 3, and the program will be returning in the fall of the 2025-26 academic school year.

OASIS groundbreaking

UCR celebrates groundbreaking for innovation park
UC Riverside has begun construction of the SoCal OASIS Park™, a research and innovation hub near campus that represents a major step in promoting economic growth in Inland Southern California. Community and campus leaders celebrated the project at a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, June 23, at the 3.44-acre site on University Avenue near campus. The $68 million project is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
