Resources for Bike Safety
Bicycling is a core part of campus life at UCSB, helping students, staff, and visitors move efficiently and sustainably. With thousands of riders and over seven miles of dedicated bike paths, safe and predictable habits are essential to protect both cyclists and pedestrians. Here are some quick safety tips you can follow:
-
Be predictable: Ride single-file, signal your turns, and avoid sudden stops.
-
Stay alert: Watch the path, keep at least one ear open, and avoid phone use while riding.
-
Dismount when needed: Walk your bike in pedestrian zones or near buildings to ensure equitable use of shared spaces.
-
Ride at night safely: Use front and rear lights and slow down in poorly lit areas.
-
Lock and register: Use a strong U-lock, secure at least one wheel, and register your bike with UCPD.

About Student Wellbeing
Student wellbeing is integral to academic success, student development, and life satisfaction. We, in Student Affairs, are committed to building relationships with our students such that together we generate optimal conditions for their wellbeing.
How We Approach Wellbeing
One way in which UCSB approaches wellbeing on campus is through the Socio-Ecological Model where look at wellbeing through 4 levels:
- Individual Efforts like educating yourself on relevant health topics
- Interpersonal Relationships that provide social support
- Community Resources that provide the settings that promote wellbeing
- Social Level Systems such as policies that improve health equity
