What is a NetID?

NetID is the username for centralized access to KSU campus resources. It is formatted as the first initial of your first name and a portion of your last name, often followed by numerals. For example, Scrappy Owl's NetID is sowl, and his full email address is [email protected]. This username will be used to gain access to most campus-supported technologies.

Your NetID password expires a year after the last date it was changed. You will receive email notifications 30 days before the expiration, and additional reminders as the expiration nears. You can change your password at changepassword.kennesaw.edu.

To protect your account, KSU requires Multifactor Authentication (MFA) when signing in with your NetID. Learn more and set up MFA.

NetID First-Time Users

Welcome to KSU!

  1. Look up your KSU# and NetID and initial password.
  2. Navigate to the Multi-Factor Authentication login page and sign in using your NetID and initial password.
  3. Follow the prompts to reset your password and set up Microsoft Authenticator and Self-Service Password Recovery (SSPR) information.

Once your account is activated, your password will be valid for 365 days after the activation date.

Changing Your NetID Password

Did you receive an email notice stating that your password expires soon? Your NetID password expires a year after the last date it was changed. Please read this important information, and then navigare to changepassword.kennesaw.edu to change your password. 

*Before changing your password, set mobile devices to airplane mode and log out of Outlook.

Updating Passwords on Mobile Device Email

Before changing your NetID password, you must set your mobile devices to Airplane mode to prevent getting locked out of your accounts.

  • To set Airplane Mode:

    1. Tap Settings
    2. Switch Airplane Mode to On setting

    To change Password:

    1. Tap Settings
    2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    3. Locate your KSU Email account and select it
    4. Tap the field labeled Account
    5. Update the password
    6. Tap Done to close the Account window
    7. Tap Done to close the KSU email window
    8. Return to Airplane Mode and switch to Off
    9. Enter your new password when prompted to re-connect to the KSU Wi-Fi

    Note: Updating your NetID password does not in any way affect your Apple ID passwords, or third-party service passwords (Dropbox, GMail, etc.) so you do not need to change any of your iTunes, iCloud, or App Store passwords.

  • To set Airplane Mode:

    1. Hold down the power button
    2. Tap Airplane Mode
    3. Tap OK to confirm, if prompted

    To change Password on Android 2.3.x:

    1. Tap Settings
    2. Tap Accounts
    3. Locate your KSU email account
    4. Update the password
    5. Return to Airplane Mode and switch to Off
    6. Reconnect to KSU Wi-Fi with new password

    To update password on Android 4.1.x:

    1. Tap Settings
    2. Tap Microsoft Exchange Active Sync under Accounts
    3. Tap Settings
    4. Locate and tap your KSU email account
    5. Scroll down and tap Exchange Server Settings
    6. Update the password
    7. Return to Airplane Mode by holding down the power button and switch to Off
    8. Tap Done
    9. Reconnect to KSU Wi-Fi with new password

Password Requirements

  • Must be at least 12 characters long
  • At least one uppercase letter and at least one lowercase letter
  • At least one special character: -!"#$%&()*./:;?@[\]^_{|}~+<= >`
  • Cannot use l33t speak (substituting numbers or symbols for letters)
  • Cannot reuse old passwords
  • Cannot be found in compromised password databases
  • Should be a strong passphrase instead of a single word

What to Do After Your NetID Password Changes

You may have software on your computer(s), which stores your NetID password in order to access various services. When you change your NetID password, you should also be sure to update any stored NetID password to reflect the new password and avoid being locked out of your account.

 
    1. Launch the Passwords application.
    2. Log in with your updated NetID password or biometric (ex. TouchID).
    3. Locate saved KSU account passwords by searching for your NetID.
    4. Click the account you would like to update the password for.
    5. Click the Edit button in the upper right corner.
    6. Highlight your previous password in the Password field.
    7. Press the delete or backspace key on your keyboard to clear the field.
    8. Type in your new NetID password.
    9. Click the Save
    10. Repeat the process as needed for saved KSU passwords.
    1. Open the Calendar application.
    2. Click Calendar at the top of your screen.
    3. Select Accounts.
    4. Select your KSU account.
      • Note: This will be listed as an Exchange account.
    1. Update your password.
    1. Open the Mail application.
    2. Click Mail at the top of your screen.
    3. Select Accounts.
    4. Select your KSU account.
      • Note: This will be listed as an Exchange account.

    1. Open the Firefox application.
    2. Open the menu by clicking the hamburger menu icon on the right side of the screen, near the address bar.
    3. Click Passwords.
    4. In the Search field, search for your KSU NetID to locate KSU passwords.
    5. Select the login you want to update.
    6. Click the Edit
    7. Update your password with your new NetID password.
    8. Click Save Changes.
    9. Repeat the process as needed for saved KSU passwords.
    1. Click Safari on the top bar.
    2. Click Preferences.
    3. Click Passwords.
    4. Select and remove the old password as necessary.
    5. Close the window.
    1. Open the Chrome application.
    2. Open the menu by clicking the kebab menu icon (three dots) on the far right side of the screen, near the address bar.
    3. Click Passwords and Autofill.
    4. Click Google Password Manager.
    5. In the search field at the top of the page, search for your KSU NetID to locate KSU passwords.
    6. Select the login you want to update.
    7. Log in with your updated NetID password or biometric (e.g., TouchID).
    8. Click Edit.
    9. Update your NetID password.
    10. Click Save.
    11. Repeat the process as needed for saved KSU passwords.
 
    1. Open the Outlook application.
    2. A pop-up window asking for your NetID and new password will appear.
    3. Enter your NetID and password.
    4. Click OK. You have successfully changed your password in Outlook.
    1. Select Manage Sites… from the Site menu
    2. Edit each site that you have configured
    3. Open the servers panel
    4. Double-click the remote server entry
    5. Update the password and save

    3. Click Passwords.
    4. In the Search field, search for your KSU NetID to locate KSU passwords.
    5. Select the login you want to update.
    6. Click the Edit

    9. Repeat the process as needed for saved KSU passwords.
    1. Open the Chrome application.
    2. Open the menu by clicking the kebab menu icon (three dots) on the far right side of the screen, near the address bar.
    3. Click Passwords and Autofill.
    4. Click Google Password Manager.
    5. In the search field at the top of the page, search for your KSU NetID to locate KSU passwords.
    6. Select the login you want to update.
    7. Log in with your updated NetID password or biometric (e.g., TouchID).
    8. Click Edit.
    9. Update your NetID password.
    10. Click Save.
    11. Repeat the process as needed for saved KSU passwords.
 
    1. Click the Wi-Fi icon at the top right of your screen.
    2. From the menu that appears, click Wi-Fi Settings.
    3. Click the more options icon (…) next to the KSU Wi-Fi network.
    4. Click Forget This Network…
    5. Click Forget.
    6. Select the KSU Wi-Fi network.
    7. Sign in with your NetID and updated password.
    1. Open the Start menu. 
    2. Search for “View Network Connections” and open the View Network Connections result. 
    3. Right-click Wi-Fi. 
    4. From the dropdown menu, click Status. 
    5. Click Wireless Properties. 
    6. Click the Security tab. 
    7. Click Advanced Settings. 
    8. Click Save credentials. 
    9. Enter your NetID and new NetID password. 
    10. Click OK. 

    Note: If the Save credentials button is greyed out, ensure that you have selected the User authentication mode. 

    1. Plug the laptop into an Ethernet port on campus. 
    2. Log in with your NetID and new password to rejoin the KSU domain. 

    Note: If the laptop does not accept your new NetID password, log in using your old NetID password. Then, reboot and log in using your new NetID password.
