This was my first gold coin purchase and I appreciated that everything was really safe, secure, timely and reasonably priced. I bought a St. Gaudens type $20 piece in BU condition. I'm not an expert... See more

They send defective gold coins, take forever to ship if the price of gold goes up. Ridiculous.
SD Bullion did not work well for me. My story:
TLDR:
- Don't trust them. Customer service is poor and delayed.
- If the price of your order increases after you purchase it, they may likely will cancel your order.
- Use a better dealer (Monument Metals has BY FAR been the best ive worked with).
Details:
- I purchased from them 2x previously in 2020.
- I recently initiated another purchase from them on Oct 14 2025 around 11 am.
- I called them on 10/14 to confirm my order and wire instructions. They confirmed the wire instructions and the order.
- I made the wire at my bank 10/14 for full amount.
- I received an email 10/15 ~5:00 am stating:
"This email is to notify you that SD Bullion order #XXXX5861 has been canceled.
Orders can be canceled for various reasons at SD Bullion. If you have questions about this order, please call us at 1-800-294-8732 or email us at [their email address] you, SD Bullion Customer Service
- I called them 10/15 10 am to get clarification and ask what happened. I recorded the phone call (and previous phone call to submit to FTC and BBB later). They told me it was a "fraud" or "verification" issue.
I told them it's legit and i've worked with other exception Bullion dealers (Monument metals, they are the best) so quickly sign a document and give them a copy of my drivers license. It was super easy.
I asked the phone operator (she was outsourced from a different country i believe) to speak to her supervisor. They told me it would be 72 hours before anyone reached out to me, and maybe longer to get my wire back!?!?!
I informed her of my formal request to remedy the verification issue and proceed with the order. And to have a supervisor call me. And if they can't fullfill the order I will:
- submit BBB claim
- file FTC complaint
- post several online reviews with this experience.
but according to the operator on the phone, my customer experience and these actions dont seem to motivate them to take steps to fix the issue.
Long-Time Customer, Growing Concerns
I've been a customer of SD Bullion for some time and have invested many thousands of dollars through their platform. While they've historically provided competitive pricing, recent experiences have significantly diminished my confidence in their operation.
Repeated Shipping Disputes On multiple occasions, shipments have been returned to SD Bullion. Each time, they eventually agreed to reship at no cost to me—but not before requiring 2-3 emails and sometimes a phone call to resolve what should be straightforward customer service. This pattern of making customers fight for reasonable accommodation wastes time and demonstrates poor operational procedures.
Quality Control Failure Most recently, I received an order where items that should have been sealed in their original assay packaging were found loose in the shipping box. This is unacceptable for precious metals that derive part of their value from being in certified, untampered condition.
Inadequate Resolution While SD Bullion offered to replace the damaged items and provided a $20 credit toward future purchases, this response falls dramatically short for someone who has spent thousands with them. The nominal credit suggests they don't value long-term customer relationships proportionate to actual business conducted.
Failed Christian Business Ethics The owner promotes his Christian faith, including sending Scripture verses with shipments—something I appreciated as a fellow believer. However, when I requested he reach out personally to resolve these recurring issues, I've received no response for over a week. This disconnect between professed values and actual business practices is deeply disappointing. Christian business principles should mean going above and beyond in customer care, not avoiding accountability.
Bottom Line For new customers seeking competitive prices, SD Bullion may seem attractive. However, their handling of issues, quality control, and customer service recovery leaves much to be desired. When problems arise, expect to waste your time fighting for basic service, regardless of your purchasing history or the owner's stated values.
I'm now exploring alternative dealers who align their business practices with their professed principles.
I ordered from SD Bullion as it was highly reviewed and promoted by most of my favorite youtubers for the first time as I found one of my favorite coins, the 2008 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf .99999 1 oz BU In Assay Card. Customer service was great when i called but when the Coin arrived, my excitement became disappointment. I did not know that the condition of the coins would be so.. disappointing? It states BU but the Assay card was full of smudge marks and scratches, the coin case was dented, and the plastic cover was removed. It definitely seemed like it was circulated or pre-owned if not someone definitely carried it around for years playing with it. I'm honestly really disappointed with the purchase and would probably not order online anymore (x.x) Really unfortunate but at least my package came so...
Update: Called SD Bullion and they mentioned the assay card alone with scratches wont affect the value, will take to a local coin store to see if any devaluation would occur for it with the scratched essay card. The Customer Service i had is really really great though! 10/10 To the staffs especially Josie(?)
This company scammed me out of my money in the form of a cancellation fee. The payment method I was trying to choose did not come up as available and I incorrectly chose another way and the order went through immediately. Then to MY MISTAKE (which I admit was dumb but note that gold pricing fluctuates so I wanted to lock in my pricing) I tried again and couldn’t figure out how to use my form of payment, of course the order immediately goes through as placed. The customer representative practically made fun of me for making these mistakes giving me the “you’re out of luck buddy pay up” attitude.
Incredible how the customer service of this company is so rude and unhelpful with such high cost items. We’re all human and I made an error and placed a second order then instantly got uneasy about how quickly you can mess up on this site so I decided not to go through with my purchase. Unfortunately due to this they charged me a cancellation fee for absolutely nothing in return. I paid $200 dollars to SD BULLION FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN RETURN. Awful business practice, it’s very easy to make this mistake on their site and I suggest you never go to this company.
I was truly excited to continue business for a long time with them but this being my first experience with SD BULLION I will inform all my friends and loved ones that this company should be avoided.
Made three orders over several days, each order the weight kept getting lighter and I realized that "at spot" means nothing to them. Changed to MM and have been satisfied with each order and "at spot" was really "at spot".
I ordered the Argo-heraeus 10 gram 2024 Year of The Snake gold bar. The transaction went smoothly. The shipping was fast and on time. It was packaged nicely. I'm definitely going to be ordering from them again
I ordered from SD buillon 3 times. The first 2 times things went OK, although slow. The 3rd time was a complete nightmare. The order of 20 silver Oz was lost by the carrier (which isn't their fault) I understood. I waited for a 2 weeks or so and when I hadn't heard anything I reached out to customer service (Victoria Martinez) and this is where it went bad. Along with being delightfully rude, she was slow to respond. Then when I had to fill out the loss forms she sent me 2 sets (which are a pain to fill out and sign, with warnings of theft etc) she rudely indormed me I had placed 2 orders with them and needed to fill out both, which I was confused, but did. . I told her I did not order 2 orders and she finally figured that out. Fast forward a couple months later and I receive an email saying that I owe them 39.35 for an order that I ordered but didn't send payment for. I told them I did not order anything since that fiasco and they said I did and it was from the same phone. I told them I lost that phone shortly after the last order and changed carriers and don't even have the same phone. Then I get an email of them sending threatening to send me to collections. This company may get things right sometimes, but when they mess up, they put you through the ringer. Take my word for it and buy elsewhere.
Ease of use and friendly customer service
I’ve both bought and sold silver eagles and silver maple leafs to SD Bullion these last couple of years and it has always been a pleasant and professional transaction. They pay fair prices and make the process very easy and secure.
I am totally satisfied with my experience with this company, my only regret is not doing more business with them in the past, I know that in the near future I will make lots of purchases, thank you.
They canceled my order right after I placed it. I tried to re-place the order and was denied. They emailed me to tell me to contact customer service for any questions regarding the order.
I then called customer service and they said that they could not place any orders at all with me because it was flagged as “too risky”. No further explanation was given. Ridiculous.
I am on a time crunch (probably like most of your clients). Everything has been checked-in and taken care of in a very swift manner. I appreciate your speed of transactions and your awesome help!

Ive purchased and not sold to SD Bullion.
Every experience has been great.
It was a smooth and fast transaction of buyback trade. I submitted my products on 08/18/2025 and paid on 08/22/2025. Highly recommended!
Long time very happy customer until 2025. Two weeks ago I received a SD "VIP offer" for 10oz bars at spot. For those who don't know, I believe if you spend a certain amount they will send you exclusive deals not posted on their website.
I bought 5 bars and one was in terrible condition. (I have purchased 100's of bars and this was in junk condition). I contacted the company and they said they would replace and they requested I send them a picture. I did, and they came back and refused to exchange it saying their offer was for "varied condition" and just because it tarnished did not justify an exchange but I could exchange it for 35.00.
That bar should have been sent to the refiner and not sold to the public, let alone offered as a "VIP deal". SD grew rapidly because they were a good company. They have since taken their eye off the ball and as such I will be taking my business elsewhere.
Having been naturally anxious about sending significant amounts of gold coins to a buyer, I can confirm that SD Bullion is professional, transparent and reputable. They took all the mystery out of the transactions and I was paid on time.
SD Bullion cannot handle public criticism. I shared my case on social media, among other platforms, to warn potential customers about their shady practices so they don’t end up like me.
I have been blocked on all social media platforms by SD Bullion direct. This is their way of protecting their “clean” image while refusing to be transparent or neutral. They want the public to believe they are a legitimate, trustworthy company but they are not.
I placed an order for over $3,500 worth of precious metals, received confirmation, was given a tracking number, waited endlessly for the shipment… and was ultimately scammed by SD Bullion.
This company takes money from your account without delivering the goods. Only after numerous complaints did I receive a refund weeks later!
I can therefore prove and strongly warn everyone against placing an order with them. Just on the Better Business Bureau site alone, in the past three years there have been over 122 total complaints, with only 29 resolved and only because the BBB got involved.
Threatened a huge cancellation fee and said they would got to collections over it after cancelling an accidental order within minutes. Rude and awful customer service. Had been a customer in the past, will NEVER be back
Ordered something and they canceled the order before I paid. They then told me I had to pay a cancelation fee and if I didn’t they would send it to collections. Very sketchy business practices.
