A Beautifully Supported Camino Journey

My group and I completed the Portuguese Coastal Camino in September, and Follow the Camino made the entire experience smooth, organized, and meaningful. From the beginning, their communication was clear and consistent, which was especially helpful since we were coordinating multiple travelers arriving at different times.

Our accommodations along the route were comfortable and well located, and the daily luggage transfers were always reliable. The route notes and maps were easy to follow and gave us confidence each day.

We also had one moment during the trip when a taxi didn’t arrive as scheduled, and the Follow the Camino emergency line responded immediately and arranged alternative transportation. It gave us a lot of peace of mind knowing they were available and supportive when needed.

A special thank-you to Nadia, who supported us with patience and kindness throughout the entire planning process. She always made us feel heard, cared for, and never rushed.

Walking the Camino was a life-changing experience for our group, and Follow the Camino played a significant role in making it memorable and stress-free.

Highly recommended for first-time pilgrims or anyone wanting a well-supported Camino experience.

Beware of this company's draconian cancellation policy. My father died the month we were scheduled to walk the Camino Frances. They grudgingly agreed to carryover 1/2 my deposit to next year, but my spouse died this year making the trip impossible. So, if your plans are ironclad and not subject to change for any life event, good luck. If anything changes, you will be out of luck with this company.

I recently completed the full Frances Camino de Santiago de Compostela, via the Napoleon route. It was a tremendous experience on many levels and frankly, is beyond describing. What I can easily describe however, was the benefit of having my journey’s logistics and support needs provided by Follow the Camino. I saw daily from some of the experiences other pilgrims had that using an agent to plan my itinerary and handle my accommodations and luggage transport was the best decision I made with respect to making this journey come together, and specifically with Follow the Camino! Every day I encountered at least one pilgrim who was having issues with being taxed by trying to get lodging for themselves or finally too exhausted to carry their backpacks overloaded with all that they needed and were in search of daily transfer of their things several stages into the journey. I am so glad to have had a friend of a friend recommend Follow the Camino. Every inquiry I made prior to booking was addressed swiftly and fully and every call or email to them once my journey began was attended to with their full focus via a 24/7 Helpline. I did in fact need their help and I felt the full weight of their attention to and concern for my safety and comfort. I highly recommend Follow the Camino.

Our group of 5 did the Camino de Santiago (Sarria to Santiago) 1-7 Nov 2025

I had done quite extensive research on doing the Camino de Santiago including writing to a few companies and reviewing hotels in the different towns etc.

I decided on Follow the Camino mainly because I found them to be very transparent and also understanding what i needed. Jade my contact was great! she understood what i wanted and was flexible in meeting some of my requests including specific Hotels which I wanted.

The day before our international flight, we got news that our domestic flight was retimed. our contact Jade immediately made the changes and rescheduled the pick up and assured me all will be alright and also highlighted the emergency numbers i could call if need be. I was so happy when i saw our pickup at the airport.

The walks was quite tiring for city dwellers like myself so spending the night in a good hotel and having good warm meals and not worrying about luggage etc made a world of difference.
Our whole walk was so painless and so fuss free and I knew we made the right choice.

In addition to the coordination, they provided good materials for us to be ready for the walk. There was a pre-departure online session. Though it did not meet our time zone, Jade sent me a pre-recording of a session which helped a lot

Follow the Camino also had an app which helps with the walk, including the route in "real time". We were able to see where we were and if we had strayed from the route (like google map but customised for us)
Wish it could have had the distance to the next point updated so that we know how much further we had to walk... (FTC can improve it for future pilgrims)

We had a really great trip and I would choose FTC again for my next adventure there

Although I was nervous about how well the experience was going to be, it was flawless. My reservations were all perfect. My bags were always picked up and delivered in time. I never had a single issue. The downside is the lack of flexibility, but I never got injured. Stay an extra night in Burgos and Leon. I never did. Moreover, I'd highly recommend Follow the Camino!

We had a wonderful time. Most of the places we stayed had something special. We had so many kind hosts, wonderful home-grown food and great conversations. We are so grateful for traveling along the Chemin Le Puy.

Still there are some things that I think Follow the Camino could have done better. This is my third camino with Follow the Camino. I should have remembered a couple of these idiosyncrasies from earlier travels.
1. The listed destination is not the destination. If I look on the website or the app, the hotel we're staying at is not always at the destination on the app. The voucher lists directions when it is different, but it can be very confusing when you think you're going to St Chely d'Aubrac, but you're really going to some place far from the town. Sometimes the instructions aren't clear. We couldn't find a sign with Lepadou Bas ever. Even though we went back and forth about 10 times. We finally had to call the emergency number since the gite never answered.
The gite that has an address in Golinhac is 5 km from Golinhac. Fortunately it was easy to find and we checked the address in time so we didn't go to Golinhac. In fact, our host told us that the shortest way to go to Conques the following day didn't include going through Golinhac.
2. Our second hotel was changed without notifying us. We arrived in SaintPrivat to find the hotel on our voucher closed for the season. Our hotel had been rebooked, but we weren't notified. Our bags had not been picked up the from the previous hotel. The incredible hotelier from the D yke hotel delivered them personally.
3. Initially, all dinners had been booked. Now I understand why. When I asked that they be deleted, I wish someone had explained why they were included. In most of the towns there isn't any where to eat, except where you are staying. Since it was the end of the season, we rarely found a cafe for lunch. I called ahead every evening to the next place to make sure we could eat there. Walking in France is not like walking in Spain.
4. Our accommodations in Espalion and Lepadous Bas weren't good. Lepardous Bas has no cooked meal only a basket of snacks. It was cold and we were hungry, so not a satisfying end to the day. The proprietors in the hotel in Espalion were rude and unhelpful. That was the only place we had rude hosts. Everyone else was wonderful

What we loved: D yke Hotel proprietor. So kind and helpful. He helped me find a great restaurant for my husband's birthday dinner.
Gite La Cabourne. Their food was amazing. Their own fresh milk and vegetables.
The host at Mmes Itiers and Martins. Another amazingly kind person with wonderful fresh food.
Nice room and good food at L'oustal de Parent.
Ditto for Lo Soulenquo

The booking and getting information was rocky from the start. The time difference was very hard to navigate when I needed information since your company is in Ireland. Once on the Camino it was ok. The hotels were pretty good and the luggage transfer was flawless. I did a guided first and felt it was a bit overrated. Even though our guide was kind and professional I didn't really see a huge difference in the Camino experience. In fact I felt the guide catered to the slower, more needy guests. One definite thing to change was the entry into the Cathedral square. She made us wait for 2 hours for everyone to arrive to a cafe so we could "enter together," and I think that ruined the finality of my camino. It should have been optional and gather later to celebrate with the group. Also, getting the compostela was not personal and that was not meaningful either since she got them for everyone. I walked an unguided to Finnistere afterwards and I was much happier enjoying my own pace and style. The friendships of the guided group were meaningful but the guided trip needs to be tweaked so people get their own experience with optional places to eat, walk, etc..and it is not so much like a group. I know we missed things along the way because they were not mentioned to stop or pause or give historical information in the morning.

The varied experiences in different types of accommodation was great.

This is my second time using Follow the Camino and the planning and support was faultless. Macarena was so supportive and listened to what I wanted and planned a truly wonderful experience. The app is great as you can track your route. Hotels were lovely - friendly staff and always spotlessly clean. I used the luggage service and my luggage was always waiting for me. On the one occasion that the taxi took it to the wrong hotel I rang the emergency number which was answered immediately and I was quickly reunited with my luggage. The website has lots of useful information and the team are always there to answer any questions.
I will definitely use Follow the Camino for my next journey.

The accommodation was generally excellent and the luggage transfer worked without any problems. The map on the app was very valuable with finding the way on the few occassions that the Portuguese coastal route was not well marked (in Vigo).
Most of the evening meals we purchased were very good apart from in Redondela where for some uknown reason the restaurant staff were very hostile to us.

No hiccups, well organized, when we didn’t understand something the help line was there, quick and efficient!

This was my second Camino with my son. The trip was amazing. “Follow the Camino” made our trip so smooth with hotel accommodation and transportation. I recommend them highly

Prompt replies and information that was given was great

This was my fourth trip with Follow the Camino. I find the staff really good to deal with and Jade was always easy to deal with and very responsive.

The trip was planned and confirmed 6 months out. Hotel accommodations were prearranged with luggage transfer included. In larger cities, upgraded hotels were available as were wine excursions. The wrap around experience from 8/22 to 9/12 was well handled by FtC. I do feel that the distances were too much (over 25K/20+L) on the first and last day. There was no acclimation to hiking nor easing in to Santiago. Training plan provided was fine. I only had problems with blisters not fitness level. The other important thing to know is that to access real time location one must have roaming or Wi-Fi; otherwise one has nothing while you are hiking. Also, some detail about the day’s hike, such as no water stops for 10 miles at the beginning or heavy day on the cobblestones, would have been most welcome. We never needed any assistance as all went smoothly.

They were easy to work with and efficient. All our requirements were addressed. The best thing about FTC was that they could confirm our hotels immediately after we paid the booking fee, unlike so other agents who will only tell you after you pay the full fees about a month prior to the walk.

Most of the hotels given were pretty good quality places.

This was a great company from the beginning of the planning. We worked with Cora and she was always so patient and very kind. We had great communication from the company as well. The apps we used during our Camino were excellent. The only really hard part was on day 1 when we walked 25 miles. That was way too much and it almost ruined the entire experience however the next morning we felt good enough to go!

The company was helpful, especially when we called about our luggage to see where it was at.
