Students wishing to receive credit by examination for foreign language proficiency can use the Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS) offered by Brigham Young University. You can earn 3, 6, 9, or 12 credit hours based on your proficiency level in any of the languages in the table below. Credits awarded will correspond to the KSU language course listing or FL if there is no associated KSU course at levels 1001, 1002, 2001, and 2002.

Setting up your FLATS exam is a two step process:
- Step One: Register for and purchase your FLATS exam ($50 per exam) through BYU's FLATS Department. Visit BYU's website and follow the instructions on their page.
Use the information below to fill out the Proctor Information section on the registration
form:
Choose: Jewel Akpose or Melissa Akins from the list of proctors.
After registering for your exam through BYU, you will receive an email with exam instructions
and a unique confirmation number and online exam password.
