A shocking bank - Caisse Epargne

A shocking bank! Excessive charges, very poor service, and dreadful staff attitude.

I needed to stay with this bank for 15 years due to a business and I can honestly say It started well but in the last 2 years has been beyond belief. The attitude of the team in both a local branch and HQ is truly detached and non helpful. Slow to respond and when they did it took weeks. Bank charges were never ending. IF YOU NEED A FRENCH BANK ACCOUNT, DO NOT USE CAISSE EPARGNE would be my advice.

Avoid at any cost this bank

Avoid at any cost this bank, especially the Confolens branch & MR MARTINI, he is a totally inept, arrogant, ignorant numpty. We sold our holiday home of 15years & left France 2years ago. We have been waiting TWO YEARS for our funds to be released. This rude and smarmy little man refuses to respond to emails or help in any way for us to get our money back, I am at a lose where else to go for help or advise?

Further to my recent review I have just…

Further to my recent review I have just had a 30 minute call with the branch manager at Caisse Epargne Ruffec who now tells me, with no apology, that after trying for 18 months to close my account they have lost all my documentation and the letters I have sent we shall have to start again.

There is now an additional form to fill in that nobody had told me about.
And he told me not to worry about all the time I had wasted, it was in the past!
How do these guys get away with this nonsense?

Cash machine issue with double booking

I wanted to take money from the cash machine. The first machine stopt the transaction at the end and gave no money out. The second cash machine was working. Now they booked twice the money out of my account. The employees were not able and also not willing to solve the issue. I would never take cash again at this bank.

Fawlty Towers bank

The most inept bunch of numpties one could imagine. These jokers are like the Fawlty Towers of the banking world. Although Basil would at least try to help customers!
Stuck with a lack of digital processes (the amount of paperwork this bank undergoes is insane) and a lack of common sense, lack of communication skills and lack of decency towards to customers, comes together to form a bank that will go under in the next 5years… by that I mean, bailed out by the Government.

I can’t think of a good thing to say about them. Maybe that their banks have aircon, so I was nice and cool for the hours on end I had to sit in their offices whilst they implement their tiresome, repetitive, nonsensical processes.

Bank not responding

We had a second home in the Medoc for over 30 years before selling in Feb 2022. We were more than happy with the CDE for most of that time, but things have deteriorated now.
The sale funds were paid into the CDE in Lesparre and we eventually were able to get most of the money into our Uk bank by my writing a cheque to my wife on our joint account. They seemed incapable of making a bank transfer.
We kept the accounts (Joint, plus Livrets À) open as we wanted to continue making the monthly payments for our Taxe Foncière. These continued until the last one at the end of Dec 2022. Then we had a demand for the Taxe d’Habitation. We wrote and emailed the bank several times to transfer the monies in our Livrets A to the Joint account. No response whatsoever, not even an acknowledgement. The bank apparently rejected the Taxe d’Habitation request and we had to make arrangements to have it transferred direct from our Uk bank. Fortunately that worked.
Now we want to close all the accounts but the bank do not answer any of our letters or emails. I wrote to the H/Q of the Bank in Bordeaux a month ago but no reply or action has been made. We don’t even know how much money we now have in the bank as they no longer send any statements.
Not sure of next step. They are useless.

Literally holding my money and future hostage

We have been trying to close and account and get our money transferred from the French account to the American account for over a month and this bank has done Jack and Squat to make that happen. it take 3 to 4 days to get any reply to any email so we have to stay up to 1 AM to get people on the phone. I cannot believe they are allowed to act this way.

My bank doesn’t deserve a 1 star…

My bank doesn’t deserve a 1 star rating. For starters, I just received a letter my bank is closing my account without giving any reason. For the past 2 months I’ve been working with them to solve an issue of a stolen card which was stolen in my mailbox apparently. I had to call 4 people at 3 different numbers to begin the process to resolve this issue. My conselleir was on vacation so it was even more difficult. After 3 weeks, several more calls and resending the paperwork twice, and sending a message stating I heard by law this was supposed to be resolved on 2 days that I fin slt received the €1500 back on my account. No apologies. No, check in to see how things were for me. All of this while I was away on vacation I worked to get this resolved. It’s like banking in a 3rd world country. Syville at the louvre location answers shows no empathy to me and it seems her bank is covering her mistakes. I was told by one of the members of the bank she made a mistake and should have shut off my cards and more importantly I never authorized a card be sent to my house.

The CE in Charente should shut down. They are USELESS

The CE in Charente don’t even deserve any star. I have been with the CE for a very long time and only have praises for my local branch in Bruay/Escaut, part of the Hauts de France CE. The staff there have always provided me with a first class service. They are quick, efficient and solve any pb in no time. I cannot fault them. After having bought a property in Charente, I was advised to move my accounts in the region. I am so pleased I didn’t. When I asked for advice on the procedure, the local branch manager in my new town: Chalais told me: ‘I have enough to do as it is’. This was not a good start and left me cold.
In the difficult times brought upon us by the Covid virus, they were not open- fair enough . But in the de confinement stage in a green zone, they still couldn’t open: they cannot clean their premises???
Whilst everyone else is pulling their weight to get this world going round, I can only name and shame the Caisse d’Epargne in Charente.

Awful bank

Awful bank. I don't 'like' any banks, but this lot make Barclays seem efficient, effective and caring (must be bad!!!). Ridiculously high charges; misinformation given, contradictory information given (in person, in-branch), hidden charges, charges when they said there wouldn't be charges, made-up charges..outdated and unwieldy systems: the online banking system is risible, as most things have to be followed up in person in-branch, but we despair of going into the branch (Bellac, 87) because the personnel are always changing and never seemed to have been trained fully. They have never resolved one issue for us, we've had to do it ourselves. Every year they send us forms to fill in about our tax residency, then deny we have returned them and threaten us with the possible fines for not returning them. Also they have made some quite costly errors and we have never received a centime back. They claim to have posted bank cards out (twice, and despite telling us at he time that we must collect them in-branch), when they haven't arrived we complained and were charged for 'replacement lost cards'! Ditto with a PIN. I only have the time to write this because I am waiting for their online banking to come back online ('sorry for any annoyance caused. Right.) One word. Don't.

WORST BANK EVER ST SEB SUR LOIRE

The worst bank is St sebastien sur Loire. I'm Currently unemployed and hardly have enough to get by, hence an overdraft on my account, worst decision to be honest. I was charged a whopping 265 euros of fees on my account, for being over my overdraft limit (Thanks to Pole emploi) for just 4 days! Rubbish service too, I talked to my counsellor and asked the bank politely for a refund, however the directrice offered us a deal... to give me just 100€ back only if I take out an insurance with them for 5€ a month for a year! the worst thing is that the directrice refused a meeting with us today to discuss it further she said I wont do anything!! cant believe I'm being treated like this. horrible Its stealing from the poor. Our next step will be the Service relations clientele!

This is the worst bank in the world

This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with. We have been trying to close our account now for 6 months. When our business closed end Jan 18 we requested closure, 1st they said they wanted confirmation from the tax office we had paid all taxes. This was done, then they wanted our accountant to confirm closure. This was done, then they made us sign written forms, checked by solicitors in the UK we had done everything.
After 4 months they released a large part of the funds, 2 months on we still cannot close the account and get our funds. I have written 3 times to the Director of the bank, ignored, our business contact ignores us, yet still they charge us fees, in time our funds will all go on fees. Never ever use this bank
