Its been a month since my booking was cancelled and I still havent received my refund. I am going round in circles with Vrbo. The property owner has agreed to the refund but it appears Vrbo are holding onto it and blaming the property owner. I booked through Vrbo so I expect Vrbo to be able to refund the booking. DO NOT USE Vrbo. Use a reputable company such as Air Bnb or Booking.com
Very unhappy. Booked accommodation through them which thr host then told me was unavailable and to cancel so i would get a refund. Still nothing and no response from either party.

I made a reservation over a month ago and now they can't even find it in their system nor my email! (Even tho they sent me a confirmation by email, go figure)
Have spent the last 2 hours on the phone getting transfered between them and Expedia.
Stay away from these crooks!
Customer service keeps telling me that they will respond to my complaint, and it has been over 3 weeks and 5 phone calls to them and I still have NO resolution.

The VRBO that I reserved was actually an independent host who used VRBO as their rental agent… somehow. I don’t completely understand. But this meant that VRBO customer support could do nothing to help me with my problem.
I have no recourse.

Do not book with them! We had a terrible experience when the host lied about the room and refused to give us a refund even though we have photos of mould and unsafe conditions.

Absolutely terrible -- stay away from VRBO !!! We book our first listing with them in August 2025 and realized a few days prior that the number of beds in the listing was incorrect. The host eventually confirmed that this was the case and we both agreed to cancel the reservation. It has been almost 3 months now that I am waiting for my funds back despite communicating by email and by phone with both the host and VRBO. VRBO indicated that they will absolutely look into the reimbursement each time I contacted them and this has gone nowhere. Completely fraudulent company with useless customer service !!!

It's a scam or at least it encourages others to commit scams. I booked an apartment with free cancellation, and I got charged for half of the total price. I cancelled the booking, but to my surprise, the host needs to approve your cancellation (there were no warnings about this at the moment of booking). The host has disappeared and never cancelled the booking , VRBO customer service is completely useless as they just kept saying me "we are waiting for a response by the host" when he's clearly not answering. I still haven't got my money back, and I don't know if I will.

Rather disappointed. First time for a guest, the 30 day money retainer isn’t very clear. And it turns out guests can pay in instalments - mine didn’t pay - and it’s my problem - again not clear in the agreements. Not a great start!

I booked a trip to Flagler Beach, Florida at the Cozy Cottage 3167 North Ocean Blvd. on the ocean. The place was on the ocean with a good view but the place is old looking. Not updated at all. The furniture is old and the beds has cheap foam toppings that keep sliding off. When first arrived I could not get in with the code they gave me. Took an hour of waiting around to get customer service give me new code to the door. And when we checked out they took another $420 out of my bank account for dog pee on the SIDE of the couch. My dog is a girl and squats, does not hike her leg to pee upwards on the bottom side of the couch. It must have been there from before. Also they took the money out after I made a negative review that they also removed. Never will I go through them again for anything. Signed: Mad as hell customer.

As a host I'm disappointed with the features or rather lack of them. I had issue with guest which we resolved but vrbo doesn't adjust nor remove negative review I left. You should more flexibility for hosts.

VRBO makes it VERY difficult to contact them regarding refunds. The chat ends if there is no current reservation, like a host cancelled trip. I could not find a phone number. I do not recommend using VRBO for any reservation.

TERRIBLE!!! Never use Vrbo!!! I booked and paid a month before I was due to arrive at Excel for a 2 day trade show. I tried to contact the host a week before for the VAT receipt and he did not answer my messages sent through the Vrbo App.
4 days before I was due to arrive I contacted Vrbo and spoke to someone who assured me there was no issue, they would also try contacting the host - and sent me an email.
2 days before I should have checked in - I should have received all the check in information which did not arrive. I tried contacting the host via whatsapp - messages were never read, I tried calling - and phone goes straight to voicemail.
On the day I was due to travel I contacted Vrbo first thing - to explain I had not received anything about how to access the property, I was escalated to a supervisor who assured me they would sort out alternative accommodation and call me back within the hour - they never did.
I then got a message from the host cancelling my booking due to 'minimum age requirements' ?!? I am 45?!?!
I called up again and went through all the farce of getting to speak to a supervisor again, who offered me alternative accommodation nearly 3 miles away.
I explained I had booked this a month ago, they had my money for a month. I had booked parking at the venue I was exhibiting at, I had late nights and early starts. A hotel south of the river, with no direct transport links is no use to me.
THEY WERE USELESS AT SORTING THE ISSUE OUT.
THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD.
THE ACCOMMODATION WAS CANCELLED THE MORNING I WAS DUE TO TRAVEL - I SHOULD HAVE BEEN SETTING OFF FOR THE LONG DRIVE TO LONDON INSTEAD OF PHONING AND BEING LEFT ON HOLD FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME.
THEY SUGGESTED I SOURCE MY OWN ALTERNATIVE ACCOMODATION - LOCAL HOTELS WERE NOW OVER £1000 FOR 2 NIGHTS!!
THEY THEN TOLD ME ' DUE TO HOST INACTIVITY AND ISSUES FOR QUITE A WHILE WE NO LONGER LIST THIS PROPERTY' ?!? IF THERE HAS BEEN ISSUES AND INACTIVITY WHY WERE THEY STILL LISTING THE PROPERTY!?!
AVOID VRBO AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

No adequate resolution with host issue. We had a safety concern with gas leaking from stove top with an open flame which could not be turned off and host asked us to disconnect gas which is completely un safe we had to call emergency fire brigade. Stove was not working and host made no attempt to have it fixed so we had to find another accommodation and host would not refund any of our accommodation. In addition the place was not as described. Complaint raises with vrbo who so far have done nothing. No contact with us at all.

I booked a three night stay on VRBO. The owner accepted and my stay was confirmed. I was charged. A few days later my stay was cancelled. The cancellation stated it was per my request. I had NOT requested a cancellation. In fact I had booked a vehicle for the stay and bought ski passes for the duration. The cancellation will cost me dearly! The home owner had cancelled my booking as they had received a longer booking overlapping my booking. How u fair is that? Basecamp Lincoln Station is the property. Beware!!

Don’t rely on customer service to help you. We are nearly at 48 hours and still waiting for support . Why , we don’t know. Now leaving loosing our holiday, months money and additional fees for onward accommodation and ferry changes to get home . Vrbo is the absolute WORST booking site me and my family have dealt with, We booked a condo in Destin Florida, patio doors falling off the hinges, fridge had rust inside and out, pillows sheets and bed sheets unimaginably disgusting, Owner Tom said “I will find someone to clean it” then two minutes later says “why couldn’t you just wash it yourself are you trying to intimidate me into getting a free stay”, over 40 pictures and videos to show how disgusting and disappointed for spending all that money just for us to check out not even an hour later, I have a 2 year old son now who KNOWS what would have happened if he was playing next to the patio I didn’t even want my children to walk in that condo without shoes, my teenage daughter and son said “ I don’t even want to sit on or sleep here” how was I supposed to let me family sleep in this sad story of a “safe place to stay and be comfortable in a place like this” Owner Tom refused to give us a refund after providing all the details and documentation of this horrible place.

I booked a luxury 3 bed apartment with walk in shower through VRBO for a family event. It was recommended by the VRBO search as the house we knew and wanted to book was already booked for our dates. The experience was awful from start to now follow up. The apartment was neither luxury, 3 bedroom nor did it have a shower . The property particularly the kitchen wasn't clean and lots of things were damaged . The host did not provide contact details prior to arrival as in the VRBO contract then immediately said we'd checked in before we could raise a complaint. Coincidentally I am a 5Star premier VRBO host, it has absolutely tainted my opinion of VRBO as a traveller and a host. My advice is to carry out a video walk through of the property on arrival. The complaint procedure is not clear or traceable and they already have your monies and you are at the mercy of a host and then VRBO. It's been an interesting experience contacting VRBO from the traveller side. If there are no external photos of the property be very wary.
