I've been with kiwibank since 14 Im 32. Not once have they helped nor offered to help me financially.... I've been full time employment since 14 so I've always had income and now they won't even let me consolidate two loans together to get me some financial relief.... Yeah so 18 years full time employment, so bills always paid.... It literally seems like they want me to struggle. I've tried to separate times to get loan, one time we almost lost my father's home due to his health, acc denying him any claim and they have NOT had any interaction in regards to finances, unless it was to put extra stress on their client.

Dreadful experience
Dreadful experience, after 20 years banking with Kiwibank, I'm switching banks. They changed my credit card, didn't give me the card I applied for, instead gave me a card I didn't apply for, sent me non-sensical responses to my emails about it, didn't phone me when they said they would, kept me waiting almost an hour on the phone when I phoned them. Have been trying to sort this out for 3 months, now giving up, waste of time, will switch banks. Really disappointing, I wanted to support a kiwi owned bank but there are better options.
Extremely old processes and service
Extremely old processes and service. They make it impossible to access Internet banking from overseas, constantly having to jump through hoops. Customer service and response time is poor. You are better off at literally any other bank!
Kiwibank has deactivated debit card…
Kiwibank has deactivated debit card control on there www portal as i was told its not secure to do that through there online portal, Kiwibank has closed the Ponsonby Branch, Kiwibank says they have a branch at Pt Chevalier when they do not. Kiwibank does not have Managers at there branches on weekends. Maybe a rename to JokeBank would be appropriate.
Incompetent, rude and ridiculous
I’m banking with Kiwibank for over 10 years but the recent experience when trying to open a business account has been absolutely horrendous. The staff shouted at me, demanded “to write a handwritten letter in front of her” then shouted at me not to touch the pen then came back and threw the letter on the desk back to me screaming that “this is not valid!” She suspected I am on a “working visa” and kept asking for it even if I explained I’m a NZ citizen. She claimed that she did not want to see my NZ passport, driving licence will suffice, then called me back to the bank in another town to see the passport - and on top of it demanded that I personally pay the utilities for the business (power) even if the premises come with utilities. The owner of the premises was in the bank with me, while she claimed she “did not believe” he is the owner of premises. To make the matters worse, she flagged to the business banking that the activity object (rescuing pound dogs FROM LOCAL COUNCILS and GOVT POUNDS) is “high risk banking activity” even if the expected banking volume is very low and non profit. At this point I’m past the stage where I care about this, I’ll be happy to work with ANY other bank than one whose customer I am for 10 years or just not open any account and not care about it. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Spoke to Camal to do first home loan application. All nicey nice (one income) until i said yes to having 1 dependant. Literally hung up on me. Judgemental piece of S#$%.
Went with a broker instead. Leaving out broker name to show this is genuine experience not a spruik. If Kiwibank read this, you know who this is because i made a formal complaint.

Useless, Travel overseas and completely lose access to your accounts.
Brilliant Kiwibank
Brilliant experience with Kiwibank for the past 15+ years. Responsive and helpful; easy to use online site and mobile app. Of course, as is usually the case, most people only come to a site like this to whinge, as they do on Facebook when there's a glitch, even though usually all the banks are having the same problems, so I want to add my 5 stars. Nothing is perfect, but I'm sure Kiwibank is up there with anyone, and best of all it's Kiwi owned.
Tried to open a Transaction account and…
Tried to open a Transaction account and Term deposit, after being asked if I would use the account to buy online, shops, petrol coffee all due to AML shite I left the branch. Agent was ok ust doing her job the Management morons at Kiwi Bank will sucessfully reduce thier Bank to a petty cash account metorphorically
Worst service
As a business over the last year we have had the worst service ever - we can never get through when we need to chat to someone, it takes more than a week for an email to be replied.
Going for a home loan top up
Going for a home loan top up to do renovations with Kiwibank was one of the most frustrating and unpleasant experiences i have had with banks, we are a long time customer with Kiwibank and have all our banking with them , Home loan, CC and personnel accounts, the top up process with one of their loan advisors felt like i was going in circles...very little communication as to what documents were required, delays in response, little understanding about building process and lots and lots of back and forward with new requests to provide info...disappointing when you want to support NZ business and get a terrible product for your effort.
Would give a zero star if i could.
Lessons learned over time
I use Kiwibank for my main personal accounts, for my business and some joint accounts with my kids. I’ve been a customer since the bank began. I have had three isssues with them over that time. When my ex and I split up we had two mortgages and we wanted to split our two properties when we changed the titles. We offered to continue to pay the same rates. We just legally needed to change who was responsible for payments. Kiwibank charged us 11k in break fees when they were still getting our custom. I’d never take a mortgage with them again. A break fee should only be charged when you’re swapping banks, not the billing name. Last year a daughter reported fraud on her account and Kiwibank froze all her accounts and her flat rent account. For 11 weeks. Luckily she had a parent to pay rent to the landlord and cover her bills. She was refused a new account with ANZ but BNZ took her on and now she’s learned you need a few bank accounts with different banks. Lastly, Kiwibank has no sympathy for you when you travel overseas! My kid swapped her SIM card, the ap couldn’t be reloaded, they froze her account and once again parents to the rescue. Luckily she had a WISE account and an account with another bank. So in conclusion kiwibank is inflexible and will happily leave you penniless in a foreign land, penniless with rent to pay, or just lose your custom as a mortgage holder when your circumstances change. All of these issues happened at emotional times and I found them very unsympathetic. I think I’d be happier dealing with an ai chatbot which tends to deal better with people. They are fine for day to day banking. They are fine for term deposits. The ap is modern and intuitive. I like the link to airpoints,

Applied for a credit card of low limit and the agent made the process complicated and emailing for too many documents back and forth for past 3 days.I was with Kiwi bank for past 5 years and now stopped and choosing BNZ for my everyday banking..no option to give a below 1 star else would have given
Uncaring customer service
My debit card reverted my account to one I can’t use online - I didn’t do anything, it just did it itself. I needed to pay for a car rental but the lady from Kiwibank said sorry, no can do. I can’t help you switch accounts back because there is a pending transaction.
I told her that the last time this happened the lady on the phone did it for me despite a pending transaction. She said, no, that’s not possible. I said, well, it happened. She said, nope, that’s not a thing. Errrrm, well it happened.
She refused to believe me or be of any help whatsoever.
She was uncaring and dismissive.
It was basically tough luck, you’re on your own to wait it out.

If I could give a zero i would. I called to get a letter of proof that kiwibank do not offer personal loans and was told they couldn't do it. They literally do not offer them. It wasn't a hard request just proof. Really kiwibank? It wasn't a huge request . Not accommodating to their clients at all.

I am super confuzzled
I am genuinely confused about all the negative reviews, it does not make sense. I am a Foundation Customer so have been with them for 24 years. In the time I can honestly count on one hand where I have had to put my head in my hands and just breath. So what if the APP crashes, so what if the Website crashes. I use my APP daily and it has many great features. Customer Service, every time I have had to call has been brilliant especially when I managed to lock myself out (my fault)! I use there secure mail through the APP for non urgent stuff. I am giving them 5 stars because they deserve 5 stars.
