People read your contact! They have a twenty -nine administration fee that is non- refundable so if you cancel the storage unit because you don't need it and they took the full amount from my account the day I reserved it for the following week! They keep your that $29 fee and the rest is returned to you! Why are you keeping people money if they change their mind about getting the unit.
Robbed by criminals and then mandatory insurance
My unit was broken into and everything of value stolen. I was 900 mikes away and they said I had to come in to see if anything was stolen....They did not file a police report and took forever to repair the doors. Then I had to deal with their insurance company. I had to find receipts for every single thing, fill out a mandatory uneditable form online and it took months to get my claim. It was robbed April 8th I got paid Sept 28th. They do nothing to expedite it and it caps at $5000. The also heavily depreciate anything. It was a nightmare. I highly recommend you not use this company.
Unprofessional and Unethical
My son used Public Storage (2641 NE 186 Terrace Miami 33180)while awaiting a long distance move from Miami to the D.C area.
On the day he vacated, my moving staff ( I work for a moving company ) loaded his goods and he subsequently vacated the unit .
Shortly thereafter , he was called by the representative and rudely told he would be charged $400 for leaving an old recliner outside the facility . He went there and IT WAS NOT his recliner !!!! My staff verified his chair was on the truck . He asked to see the CCTV footage , was refused by the rep (who turned out to be the manager ) who said there was no access to him . Only the manager could access.
After numerous calls to customer service , no satisfactory resolution was given . In fact, they charged $500 immediately (according to Manager authorized by District Manager)
I spoke with the Manager , who now changed his story and stated the movers asked if they could dump it. When asked to describe the person the Rep said “a skinny blonde guy “. Then I told him our crew were bald ,,dark haired and of Hispanic descent .
Thus , three outright fabrications were given .
1. He saw them dump it with his own eyes.
2. He was not Manager. Sorry only Manager can access footage.
3. The Movers did it .
This was a very unpleasant experience from the Representative of this facility thru 3-4 customer service agents called by both my son and myself (I’m a senior citizen @70 yo).
We are still attempting for someone in the Corporate office to contact us.
How many other person who use this facility were indiscriminately charged at the whim of these representatives ?
Having worked in the transportation industry over 25 years , I dislike companies who are not honest with the customer .
We are still hoping to get this situation resolved. Charging money for actions committed by someone else is disgraceful!

Increased rent price each month till we noticed!
I rented a 4x6 indoor unit for $40 something a month and then after less than a year the price had gotten all the way up to $109 a month before we realized! Once hearing this I went to the website to check pricing, and the same unit is going for $60 a month!! Their website claims they are trusted by customers nationwide, but I find that extremely hard to believe after figuring out I have been paying nearly 200% more than the original price of the unit for months now, all while NEW customers were receiving the price I originally had! When I called regarding it, they sounded like someone who had just been caught in the act and immediately tried to drop the price to $90 a month like that's supposed to be a good deal... I understand what they did isn't illegal but to "send an email" once a month regarding price increase knowing customers are on auto pay and likely will not see it is extremely scummy behavior. After reading some other reviews about the place it seems this is a common issue among its customers. Would highly recommend avoiding this place and finding somewhere else for your storage needs.
Reservation Date Fiasco
I used their online tool to create a reservation for a unit, starting at the end of the month. After visiting the facility and inspecting the unit. I thought I was confirming my reservation by providing to the salesperson all of my info and payment info, only to find that they started the rental today, 27 days early. They had no idea how to fix it and gave me a number to the district manager (no response). Called the 800 number and could only get through to someone that could do anything after choosing the "new rental" option and getting transferred from there (only answered on the second attempt). However, this person also could not fix the problem. They offered a refund of what I paid today but could not tell me how much or when my next payment would be due or if the "second month free" would still apply. I decided that it would be easier to just close the account, get a full refund, and look for storage elsewhere.
Scam
Went through process to rent a unit. I wanted to pay for six months up front, and they couldn’t guarantee me that rent would be increased in one month!!! Total scam ……. Do not rent from this company! They want you to move everything into the unit , then you’re committed and they can increase rent…… joke.
THEY RAISE RATES WITHOUT NOTICE and THEIR CONTRACT IS VERY VAGUE
They raise the rent whenever they do a "market analysis" and provide no notification. Contract states, "2.2 Your Rental Terms May Change with 30 Days' Notice. We may change your Monthly Rent, fees and charges, and any other terms of this Rental Agreement with 30 days' notice to you. We may send notice to your email address. By continuing to use Your Space, you agree to the Rental Agreement as changed and that all of its other terms remain in
effect." This is how they get away with raising your rate. I NEVER received notification of the increase as per the contract stated. To the contrary I received an email on 9/29/2025 that stated "Thank you for being a valued Public Storage customer. We’re committed to providing you with excellent service at clean, convenient, and professionally managed locations. Effective October 1, 2025, the state sales tax rate on commercial and self-service storage rent will no longer apply, affecting your monthly rent payments going forward. Starting with your October 1, 2025, your updated monthly charges will be: "Spoke to an agent and she said an email was sent out (I NEVER received an email) on 9/30/2025 about the rate going up due to a market analysis which supersedes that 9/29/2025 rate change. The get you in there and raise your rate and justify it through being a month-to month contract.
Renters Beware
Renters Beware! Total Scam! I moved out of my unit on August 1st and was charged for the entire month of August. They do not pro-rate charges as I was happy to pay for ONE day. Then they sell accounts to collections after 30 days! I am furious! They are hurting my credit when they have the ability to rent the unit for days 2 thru 31!! Such a scam and horrible business practice for a company, I thought, was reputable.

Well Sabrina was the most helpful and courteous employee that I've delt with out there in 5 years. She went out of her way to help me and was on her break and still helped me with my issue. I just wish she was there before I decided to leave there or I'd still be there for sure. She is very nice and makes sure that everything runs smoothly and is a very good manager. Thanks for all your help today and I'll recommend you to anyone thats looking for Storage units in the future. You really made my day when I needed a helping hand. Thank you so much.
Dramatic rate increases
Watch out! They will raise your rates dramatically. I'm paying DOUBLE what I initially paid 2 years ago with no change to the service provided.

Expect 20% rent increases within a couple of months signing and moving in. Disgusting predatory practices and the reason they barely have over a 1 star review on most sites.
Good climate management - the rest NOT
The positive - the ventilation for this place was well calculated - no mold or bad smell. The negative -Stored articles in multiple units for a period over 18 months. Pricing increased significantly (50% in first year alone). To reach the facility manager was almost impossible. The toilet of the facility was often just closed, and when open in terrible shape (no soap, toilet paper, hand towels). Algae's are growing in the toilet bowl - have never seen this before - this only happens when no cleaners are used and plenty of bacteria present that algae can feed on. The carts for moving furniture never get cleaned, nor checked for properly working (wheel bearings are worn out). The floors are painted in a grey color originally, but this color is barely visible as it is in a solid beige-dirt color. This could be a great place to store - but managemet is not getting a passing grade
Absolute SCAM!!!!
Absolute SCAM!!!!! Reserved and paid for a unit online. Received a message stating my unit was ready but when attempting to access the facility, the doors did not work. This was a Monday morning at about 10am for reference.
There are no employees available on site to assist and didn't receive a call back until late afternoon. Still no resolution on access and when I asked for a refund, I was told I was still going to be charged an admin fee. I was robbed by Public Storage and they refuse to acknowledge. Terrible company, terrible morals, terrible customer service.
BEWARE!!
BEWARE!!! Clean place with good customer service, BUT their business practice is to get you in then raise the rent dramatically. I had a 10x30 unit for a couple of years and had to spend about $1000 for a forklift, truck, and helpers to move out. Moved in with a rent of $593. After 10 months, it jumped 25% to $743. A year later it became $907, a 22% jump. I'm GONE!!!

bad experience
I rented the space and signed a contract online. I went to move in and the unit was locked and inaccessible. There was nobody to talk to at the facility, nobody helpful on the phone and still no unit access.

I paid for a month of storage left early and they won’t refund the remaining. They’re just a bunch of thieves.
STAY AWAY from Public Storage!!!
Public Storage ruined an extremely large part of my life mentally and emotionally. They auctioned my storage unit without notifying me. My storage unit was everything me and my children owned. Clothes, shoes…everything. We were in the middle of moving and they ripped that from me and my children. We only had a few items a part from our unit since we were moving. They did not post anything about auctioning the unit on their site in my account. Not once had they spoken to me. Do NOT rent a unit anywhere at a Public Storage, especially the one on Gary Avenue in Geneva, Illinois. Only reason I found out about my unit was because my son went to get his 4 wheeler out. Everything was gone. I suffered major panic attacks and I honestly did not want to go on anymore. I felt as if I failed myself and my children. I blamed it all on me and it took a toll on my mental and emotional health. I literally begged and begged Lily, the manager to tell the person that bought my unit (10 x 20 unit) that I will pay them whatever they wanted. I begged her to give them my number, so something could be worked out. I did everything I could to save my unit for me and my children. Public storage shrugged me off and Lily would not do anything at all for me. It was, by far, the most excruciating experience I have ever been through. I have nightmares about mine and my children’s belongings. I cannot sleep knowing our belonging’s are somewhere out there. I even asked if I could buy each and every item of mine back. I said, offered, begged, cried and pleaded anything and everything I could to get some sort of help. They wanted nothing to do with any of it. If our belongings would have burnt in a fire or something of that nature, it would have been easier to accept. Knowing Public Storage illegally auctioned off our belonging’s, another person bought it ALL for 250.00 and then no one caring to help or figure anything out almost killed me. Lawyer and private investigator were out of my price range for what I needed done and proved. So please, do not ever go to a Public Storage.
Public Storage and their not so pleasant specials!
Horrible service, sneaky about their prices. If you get a storage unit with a promo or that month’s special, just know it’s only for one month and then your month payments are never a fixed rate. I was told they fluctuate with the market. The Storage facility I used closed at 9:00pm. If you left at 9:01, you be getting an email. No one is ever in the office and they live there!
