Hidden subscription – charged €49.99 after initial €0.99 VIN report
I ordered a VIN report from Checkcar.vin for €0.99, as clearly stated on their website. The report itself was fine, but three days later they charged my card €49.99 without any clear notice or consent for a subscription.
Only after contacting their support did I learn that this was supposedly part of a “3-day trial” that converts into a €49.99 monthly plan — but this information was buried in small grey text on the payment page. It was not clearly visible or transparent during checkout.
This kind of hidden subscription practice feels very misleading and dishonest. I’ve since found that many other people have experienced the same issue. I’ve reported this website to their domain registrar and to consumer protection authorities for unfair commercial practices.
If you only need a one-time VIN report, I strongly advise avoiding this service.
Scam site
Scam site, keeps trying to take money from my credit card, even after initial payment. And the report I received has no useful info.
The report is clear and transparent
The report is clear and transparent. I trust it without second-guessing.
I evaluate damaged imports
I evaluate damaged imports. It’s handy that it pulls old auction photos even if the listing is gone. I quickly check flood, hail, salvage, and rebuilt. Rollbacks show up instantly by service dates. The software has no pushy marketing and sticks to the point.
We looked for a calm family option for my parents
We looked for a calm family option for my parents. Ran the check from a tablet, the interface is clear, payment went through without hassle. Found a former corporate owner and frequent scheduled services. That adds transparency. The report made the decision easier.
It’s a scam
It’s a scam. Report had no information at all and then I got a subscription which would’ve charge me 100 euros. No possibility to delete my account, no possibility to delete my card from their records. I had to cancel my credit card, and generate a new one. These kind of practices should be illegal. I don’t know where I could report them and get this site closed down.
I was hunting for a city EV
I was hunting for a city EV. The Leaf report showed battery service notes and a past module replacement. Diagnostics confirmed the numbers and I negotiated a discount.
total scam
total scam, they stole $49.99 from a hidden membership and after I emailed them for a refund they said you accepted the terms and conditions, scam
I doubted whether to check at all if the car was fresh
I doubted whether to check at all if the car was fresh. Entered the number and saw photos from a past auction and a note about a replaced fender. In person everything looked great, but it became clear why the price was below market. It paid off on the first try. Try it once for peace of mind.
The service did its job
The service did its job. It saved time and cleared away wishful thinking.
I source cars for clients
I source cars for clients. The report instantly flags accidents, taxi use, commercial use, and mileage from inspections. If location and usage don’t match, I cancel the trip and save a day. Sources are clickable and support answers without fluff.
“Quick report, but hidden subscription traps!”
I found checkcar.vin really easy to use and getting a basic car history report was fast. Payment was instant and the report generated immediately. However, I was surprised by unexpected subscription charges later on. The terms weren’t very clear, and customer support wasn’t very helpful when I had questions. It’s useful for a quick check, but make sure you read the subscription details carefully before paying.
Total scam
Total scam. They get you hooked into a subscription for their 1.99 report that get's you charged with 120 Euros.
GMail marks their mails as spam so you won't get a notification that you're hooked to their 3 day 'free' trial.
Convenient and fairly priced.
Hidden Subscription Scam!
I intended to purchase a one-time VIN check, but received a hidden trial subscription that led to an automatic charge of $124.99. The subscription terms were unclear, and customer support refused to issue a refund despite my prompt complaint. The process feels deceptive and I do not recommend CheckCar.VIN to anyone—beware of misleading billing practices and poor customer service.
Scammers
Scammers. I never received any kind of confirmation on any kind of made "subcscribtion". On top of that they have taken different sums from my account first ones 99.99 euros and the last one 125,48 euros. They should be reported
Scam site
Attention! This is a site that steals money from you - after you pay 2 euros for an incomplete report, without notifying you, it takes 100 euros from your account after a few days! I will report it to the police!
I looked at a 2018 Skoda Octavia…
I looked at a 2018 Skoda Octavia imported from Europe. The history showed commercial use, regular highway mileage, and a note about a windshield replacement after a chip. I didn’t buy the car, but I understood its true condition.
