We needed to make a claim after the death of our mother. Avanti do not do the claims themselves they employ a company called Ergo. Ergo is online only. Avanti didn't help with the claim at all even though I rang them several times. I found Ergo to deliberately lengthen time before our payment, their complaints department were rude, condescending and patronizing in their emails and the whole process was awful and shambolic. They received our claim on the 14/08/25 and we did not receive the money until yesterday 13/10/25. Not only did I lose my mother I found this process via Ergo very distressing.

We received a discount for a new account, offered to my wife.
However my previous account continued until I cancelled it by phone. I don't think that the automatic continuation of the previous account was made sufficiently clear. That said, I was satisfied with the service offered by the agent on the phone and the reduced cost of this year's travel insurance.

Extremely poor claims system
Extremely poor claims system. Very basic claim submitted 9 weeks ago together with all supporting documentation - it has got to be one of the most basic claims anyone would have to process. Called 3 times and still being told it is awaiting approval!
Claim ref GLU62095. The last call (today) I have been told exactly the same by Linda and have been on the call over 60 minutes and counting!
All I can say is thank goodness it is not an emergency - as someone else has said buy cheap buy twice!! Lessons learnt and all that!
***UPDATE***
I’ve updated to my married name - I didn’t realise the account was in my old name.
Avanti have miraculously now confirmed the claim and advised it should now be settled within 2-4 business days!!!
Amazing what a review can do!!!

Such a brilliant easy site to navigate, the site explains everything so well and gives you choices.
Dreadful to deal with
Dreadful to deal with. They will state something on one day and then the next day say something completely different. My wife was adivsed after an op by the surgeon not to fly for two weeks, her GP suggested that she should not fly for 8 weeks. FLY....
Now Avanti are saying that she is not able to travel even by car unless we get a written letter from the doctors.
The most unhelpful bunch ever.
